CAGD 110 Computer Assisted Art

CAGD 110 provides an introduction to computer graphics and art. In this class, we learn about the basic tools of Adobe Photoshop and a variety of skills/techniques for more efficient workflows. We are expected to demonstrate basic principles of animation and create the illusion of three-dimensionality on a two dimensional plane while maximizing our capabilities.

Animated Painting

For our final project, we are to render an Animated Painting. In this case, we were able to use the artwork from our first project, "The Skull" (picture above Photoshop Plus). The requirements are to capture a small "Story" around 5-10 seconds, resolution in animation to be between 1,000 and 2,000 pixels in each direction, at least one light source in the image, and at least 3 different pieces of subject matter in the scene to be animated (frame by frame effects and/or keyframe animation).

In this project, I was able to animate 2 spherical objects to clash into each other, while destroying other items along the way.

The Landscape

For our next project, we are assigned to capture a clearly readable theme or story within a realistic landscape. The scene should contain a clearly distinct Foreground, Middleground, and Background that are all compliant to the practice of atmospheric perspective.

Again, we were able to utilize instructor Pozzi's Brush tools into our disposal. My scene was based around the animated series, Dragon Ball Super. My vision was to capture a small fight scene in a dystopian type world where the viewer can distinguish the "Hero" and the "Villain". With Pozzi's brushes, I was able to incorporate destroyed buildings in the background, grass like strokes, and a Japanese like tree with leaves falling in the foreground.

Atmosphere

In this project, we are free to use another instructor's brush tools (Pozzi) to create landscape artwork. The following tasks are considered: appropriate textures, color/value, and clarity in quality.

The Skull

For our first project, we followed through instructor Backlund's guidelines to make three required objects, the lit candle, solid ball, and a skull. The purpose of this project is to showcase 3D renders of objects by focusing on the gradience of color, efficient workflow, consistency, and the effective use of shadows.
